What is microblading?
Microblading is a cosmetic tattooing process that entails implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a small, sterile, disposable blade composed of several tiny needles, to produce the appearance of eyebrow hair, and to enhance and create fuller looking eyebrows. Microblading is done by a manual hand tool, applied to the first layer of skin. It is not done by a permanent tattoo machine which applies pigment to the deeper layers of the skin, which is why microblading will fade over time if done properly. It requires follow-up visits so that the hair-like strokes can be layered, developing a more natural looking brow.
If you are looking for a way to even-out or enhance your brows, add dimension, or fill in sparse brows, microblading is a great way to produce natural looking results, that will last approximately 12 to 24 months depending on the individual. It is great for people who want to spend less time every day filling in their brows, for active people who do not want to sweat off their brows, and for individuals who just want amazing brows to wake up to every day!
It is also important to note that there are aftercare instructions that need to be followed to produce the best results. Microblading is an investment in your beauty routine, and it is very important to take care of your investment. Not following aftercare properly may result in less than ideal results.
How long does microblading last?
Microblading is meant to fade over time, and on average, will last 12 to 36 months. It is very common for the first microblading session to fade substantially, which is why a second touch-up procedure is necessary 6-10 weeks after the initial session, to produce the proper results, as well as to create a layering of the hair-like strokes created by the microblade. After that, touch-ups will be needed every 6-24 months to maintain the brow style and shape.
Frequency of follow-ups depend on a number of factors including: following proper aftercare instructions, the speed of the individual’s cell turnover, sun exposure (sunblock on your eyebrows is essential!), the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), exfoliation, and if any chemical peels and strong skincare come into contact with treated areas.
Also, individuals with oilier skin may fade faster than non-oily skin. It is possible these skin types may need follow-ups every 6-9 months.
Please note that final results and time frame cannot be guaranteed as each skin type will hold pigments differently and fade at different rates.
Does microblading hurt?
Lunamar Beauty & Brows strives to make each client as comfortable as possible. A maximum-strength, topical anesthetic cream and spray are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure. Most clients report little to no pain.
Be aware that even though different numbing creams are used during the procedure, we cannot guarantee complete numbing, and there may be a small amount of discomfort.
You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain, around and during your menstrual cycle.
Is the 6-10 week follow-up session necessary?
Yes, it absolutely is. The first session lays the proper foundation for your fresh new brows. As stated previously, the first session may fade substantially, which is why a second session is needed to correct this. The second session also allows for any adjustments that are necessary, as well as adds more detail and dimension to your brows.
Please do not expect to have perfect results after your first session. This process can take time and patience.
Many clients also wish to darken their brows, or go bolder during their second session, which is absolutely possible!
** Remember it is your responsibility to book your follow-up appointment. Keep in mind there is high demand for appointment slots, and rescheduling is rarely possible. If you book outside of 10 weeks, you will be charged for an initial service.
How will I look immediately after? What is the healing process like?
Many clients walk out of the studio without looking red or swollen. Some may experience slight redness and swelling, but will normally fade away within a few hours to 48 hours. Microblading is not as invasive as a traditional tattoo, and a special topical anesthetic spray used also helps minimize any swelling that may occur. Some clients report a feeling similar to that of having a sunburn on their brows.
You may feel as though they look darker, and bigger than what you expected for the first few days after the procedure, which is completely normal! Don’t panic. The color will soften, and the strokes will shrink in size during the healing process (typically 2-3 weeks).
Please follow the link to view more details on what to expect during the healing process.
Is there a best time to book my microblading procedure?
Anytime is a great time to get your eyebrows microbladed! We do recommend that if you are planning a vacation, to make sure your appointment is at least 10 days prior to the trip. This is to protect your brows while they are in the early stages of healing. If it is a hot or humid destination, please book the trip at least 2 weeks after your appointment.
Also, you will need to protect your brows from the sun for two weeks, either by wearing a hat, or avoiding the sun completely, so it is important to take note of that when booking your appointments. You will also need to restrict any physical activities/working out that cause excessive sweating for 7-10 days.
Is there anything I need to do before my microblading appointment?
Avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin, consuming alcohol, pre-workouts, and any other medications or supplements that may thin out your blood, 24-48 hours before your appointment.
If possible, please refrain from consuming alcohol for 48-hours prior to your appointment.
Please do not take turmeric, fish oil, or vitamin e 48-hours before your appointment, as they are natural blood thinners.
DO NOT drink coffee the day of your appointment. This is also to minimize bleeding, as caffeine increases your heart rate. You may have some coffee immediately after your session is done, I promise!
If you normally fill your eyebrows in, please do so the day of your appointment. This will help with understanding what you like, and what you are comfortable with. If you don’t normally fill them in… you don’t need to the day of your appointment! It is totally fine, we will discuss design and style, and we will not begin the procedure until you are happy with the shape and style drawn.
These are all steps that must be taken 24-hours before your procedure. You will also need to follow our pre-visit care instructions before your visit. Failing to thoroughly read and follow the pre-visit care instructions may cause you to become ineligible for the procedure, and will result in losing your non-refundable deposit.
Can anyone get microbladed?
Any individual receiving any form of cosmetic tattooing will need to be over the age of 18.
Unfortunately not everyone can receive a microblading treatment due to specific skin and/or medical conditions.
Some reasons include: excessive bleeding, pregnant or nursing, diabetic (unless you receive a doctor’s note), chemotherapy (unless you receive a doctor’s note), autoimmune diseases, major heart problems, allergies to licodaine, tetracaine or epinephrine, and others.
Please thoroughly read through the list of people ineligible for microblading. It is the clients responsibility to understand who is ineligible for the procedure before booking an appointment and paying the non-refundable deposit.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us through email and we will get back to you within 24-hours.

How do I book an appointment?
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
We understand that life happens and sometimes you just cannot make it to your appointment. You may reschedule your appointment up to 72-hours before your original appointment time. Your deposit will be used for the future appointment. If you reschedule more than once, you will be asked to make a new deposit. Any appointment cancelled/rescheduled after the 72-hour allotted time will forfeit their deposit. Please visit our appointment policy page for further information.
How much does it cost to get microbladed?
The initial microblading session price is $500, and the 6-10 week follow-up session is $150. A 7-24 month touch-up for $300 will be necessary to preserve the pigment color. Each session requires a $100 deposit. Please follow the link to view our services and prices, as well as a more detailed description of each session. As a reminder, all of our services are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Can I get microbladed if I have Botox or fillers?
Yes you can! Please schedule any Botox or filler sessions 4 weeks prior to your appointment. You may also receive Botox or fillers 4 weeks after your microblading session.
What should I expect after my procedure?
The first few days after your appointment your brows will appear much larger and darker than what you initially expected. It is completely normal. They will gradually lighten up, as well as shrink in size during the healing process. You may also experience tightness and itching, sort of like a sunburned feeling, which is also a very normal step in the healing process. NEVER SCRATCH OR PICK AT YOUR HEALING BROWS. Please click here to learn more about the aftercare steps you will be following.
Can I exercise after getting microbladed?
Unfortunately, you must avoid anything that will make you sweat excessively for 5 days. I know, I know… please don’t kill me! It is important to keep your brows nice and clean during the first week, and you cannot get sweat into your freshly microbladed brows. The salt in your sweat may cause an infection, and/or fade the pigment deposited into your skin very quickly, and you may not get the ultimate results WE want! If you must do some physical activity, keep it very light, and make sure to clean your brows very gently with warm water, always making sure your hands are clean before touching your eyebrows.
Can I bring a friend/family member with me to my appointment?
Due to COVID-19 and our efforts to socially distance and keep everyone safe, anyone that is not receiving a service at LUNAMAR Beauty & Brows will not be able to enter the facilities. We appreciate your understanding during these unprecedented times.
